Hello! I am taking the One World,
Many Cultures, Many Faiths course as a way to wind down and achieve my bachelor’s
degree. I decided to take this course based on information that I received from
someone else that took it, and the prospect of culture, religion and
geographical relevance seemed to peak my interest as an interesting way to end
my undergraduate endeavors. I did not expect it to be easy and it has proven me
right in that aspect but it seems to be a class with a welcome flavor to it.
The amount or cluster objectives (24!) seems daunting but I am sure I am up to
the task and welcome any help that I can receive from others in the class! I am
sure I will need it! Some of my strong points that I feel can contribute to
this class are my abilities to work well with others and my ability to have an
open mind. I was a mid level manager in retail management for 10+ years and I have
worked with many different wonderful people in that time. I love working with
others and achieving a team atmosphere so that we can all succeed. (Sounds like
a retail sales pitch huh, they may have brain washed me some!)
I had not
really considered the effects that geography can have on a person’s life and
culture. I am ashamed to say that it is perfectly obvious, but I had never
considered or taken the time to consider the effects that multiple things such
as location and customs can have on people. I look forward to learning more as
this class rolls on. I have pretty much led a sheltered life as I have not been
fortunate to travel much. I do not have any real good firsthand experience when
it comes to being well traveled but I hope to make up for it by having an open
mind to the possibilities and information from our fellow class members and
information from our texts. I have been to Denver half a dozen times or so
(family in the area) and also to Birmingham and Boston but that just about sums
up my travels so far in my near 40 years on the planet. I hope that this class will
be better with me in it because I hope to contribute to the desire of others to
learn and in turn help myself learn something new as well! The only real
concerns that I have are making sure that I help those around me, and paying
attention to things that I learn in this class. Other classes that I have taken
at Bellevue have opened my eyes to things in the world that I was not aware of
and I am curious what I take away from this class. It is important to me that I
take a little something away from every class that I take here. Thanks and look
forward to learning from all of you!
